Thornhold Drey and Moonsteppe Wolves: Preview 3
Welcome back Summoners! We've been previewing the upcoming Thornhold Drey and Moonsteppe Wolves. If you've missed any of the previous articles, click here to see the previews for their summoners, or click here to see the previews for their common units. Today we'll be taking a look a the champions of these two new decks, and learn how these heavy-hitters support their factions. First, let's look at the Thornhold Drey.
Vira Ironbranch is delightfully cheap, and at first glance more resembles a common unit. But this powerful champ is less about cutting her way through the enemy's frontlines, and more about bolstering her fellow squirrels. She's got the same Take Post ability we've seen with the Gladewatch Scouts and Guild Tinkerers, helping her make hit and run attacks or scramble to new defensive positions. But her real power comes from Post Commander, allowing her to boost common units adjacent to her hiding place. Played right, your Bramble Knights can get even more scary, or station some Thistle Wizards next to her for both boosted attacks, and a way to keep Vira's defenses in tip-top shape!
It's a structure, it's a champion, and it lives up to its name. The Nutcracker can help support your Bramble Knights and is a great place for wounded squirrels to hide away.
Ah yes, another tough structure to stuff a squirrel into, and doing so gives you a bonus attack!
These champions offer you some complex interactions with your common units, allowing you to set up some powerful combinations on the battlefield. But what about those Moonsteppe Wolves?
We've already seen the effects of Wolf Form on the summoner, Luna, and some common units like the Pack Initiate. Here we see it again in the terrifying figure of Remus Nightsong. This guy can push deep into enemy territory, killing as he goes.
Rommi lacks Remus' hardiness, but makes up for it by appearing with a retinue of common units. Paired with units like the Pack Initiate or Pack Wolves, your opponent can suddenly find themselves in a position they were unprepared for!
The Wolf Spirit comes in hard, potentially adjacent to your summoner. It doesn't have tons of life, but at a cost of 3 and a terrific Lunge, it can potentially get into the mix right away, and sow chaos among your opponent's ranks!
That's it for this week's previews. Next week we will take a look at the events that these two new factions have at their disposal, and see how they tie their respective factions together! The Thornhold Drey and Moonsteppe Wolves will be available in retail stores and the Plaid Hat Games web-store in Q2 of 2026!
