In honor of March Madness, and the old fan-made Blagog Blog, we've decided to host a tournament of battles for the masses of the armies... The commons! The tournament consists of all 101 official Summoner Wars common units released before the 2nd Summoners, facing off in a single elimination battle to the bitter end.

The bracket for this grand tournament, which can be found on the Challonge Website, or by clicking the link found here, will be open for predictions until March 25th @ 11:00 PM EST, at which point, the games will begin! To submit a prediction, all you need to do is sign-up with Challonge, and drill out the bracket.

There will be roughly five seperate matches posted to the forums every day, with a poll attached to it. Then it is up to you, the players and fans, to vote on who you think should win (based on strength, usefulness, even looks!).

The winner of the bracket contest will receive an exclusive interview done by me (or possibly another writer), discussing your picks, and anything else Summoner Wars, or even PHG related!

Who will be the winner!? The powerful Mountain Vargath Brutes? The shifty Phoenix Elf Warriors? Or even perhaps the dopish Tundra Orc Smashers? It's up to you to decide, so get out there and get predicting and voting!

I was excited at first... Then I realized it wasn't gong to be a real tournament with build restrictions not allowing any champions in the decks. That would be interesting to see what decks do well.

Then again I think seeing what the community thinks about the different commons could be interesting as well.

Spellsucker depending on how many Filth fans there are. Or maybe Horror. I don't think mutations should be in this thing.

Mutations are considered to be commons.

This is cool, thanks for making and running it Jebuh.

As for winners, I really don't think the Filth will do that well tortugatron, I doubt mutations are gonna run away with things.

Knowing things from Heroscapers, this rarely comes down to who is truly the best units (although those tend to do slightly better), but is pretty much pure popularity in how much players like them.

Gem Mages seem like a good guess to me. I'd assume the GD Defenders, PE Warriors, JE Gorillas will also fare pretty well. Given the large crowd of iOS players, I'd assume anything from the original 8 is also bound to do slightly better.

Can't wait to see how it plays out!

I know, but you can't have more than 1 of each in your deck so they just don't feel that way. I do like that they are commons though for the purpose of their being 101 pre-SS commons, because there are also 101 pre-SS champs :). And in a couple years I'm sure FL will screw that up though...

Looking forward to all this SW bracketology though!

In other news, putting the MV Brute, JE Lioneer, and DD Gem Mage in the same small section is cruel. That was a really rough patch of choices for me.

The rest of it I'm also very unsure on. Should be interesting to see how it all falls out though.

I'm in it to win it! I don't think I will, but at least this can't be as bad as my basketball picks.*

*Disclaimer: I know next to nothing about basketball and didn't even bother filling out a bracket. Go Fightin' Those Guys!

In term of units capability in single combat, I believe the DECEIVER would get the most victories while considering:
a) all board positions;
b) both turn sequence possibilities; and
c) roll probabilities.

In terms of popularity SMASHER may look to most as the fittest for reaching victory as it :
a) Withstand 2+ blows in nearly all circumstance;
b) Disable several abilities with Sluggish;
c) Allows a lower units count of 3 or 4, locking several of the most powerfull events and decreasing the opponent hand management capability;
d) Reducee drastically mana gain for the opponent, increasing Freeze efficiency and Tundra champions' supremacy.
e) Is highly effective against swarm and champion strategies, fits well in an attrition or assassination deck, and can perform equally offensively and defensively.

Now that I've gone through the bracket, I changed my mind. Gorillas FTW! Their biggest threat is the Claw Mutant.

Swamp Orc Savagers would give any other common a real run for their money, if not run away with it.

Yeah. The lovely thing about battles liket his is it has very little to do with what unit would really win most of these matchups.

It's going to be a good unit that a lot of people generally run and enjoy playing.

I'm with joe on this one though--Gorillas all the way.

It's gonna be very interesting to see how it does go though.

Oh, also 25 entrants already! That's pretty good. Finally, watch out everyone, Santa has entered the contest! I'm playing for second now :P

Mind Witches. Not that I think they are the absolute best unit; I just have a crush on that art...
