The Phoenixborn of the Illusion Magic Expansion, Ethias and Tash, were recently previewed alongside some of their spell and followers. Today we’ll expand upon the core premises of their decks.
Ethias gains their power through embracing the void, abandoning connection to reality, and pursuing erasure of magic, knowledge, even existence itself. All resources are simply bindings to be let go of to pursue victory.
Meanwhile, Tash assembles an arsenal of powerful alterations and executes bypassing attacks, dealing critical damage to enemy Phoenixborn and stealing resources from them to craft even more traps and weaponry.
Delve into the darkness of the cosmos, and return with the might of the Void Phantoms! This conjuration is a fearsome offensive unit, capable of ambushing opponents tight on magic. Should your Phantoms land a strike without retaliation, they will sink back into the void with their phantasmal protection.
Ethias has a clear fixation on achieving a state of pure nothingness, whether it be nullifying magic, abandoning resources, or putting threats into a state of total statis. The Empty Vessel is fueled by Ethias’ abandonment of cards in hand, converting that into the ability to exhaust any unit!
Align allows you to look to the skies and forfeit your attachment to magical potency in exchange for deeper wisdom on the nature of reality. This is a powerful conversion of resources, but how long can you keep it up before Ethias needs to Erase this spell from his memory? There are no easy choices in Ethias’ deck; every ready spell you sacrifice in pursuit of total erasure will be felt. Will you cling too tightly to what you have, or agree to let everything go?
Artifice magic has changed Argaia. The ability of Phoenixborn to rapidly create and iterate physical objects of immense complexity and power, and to bestow these tools to the people, has created a world state of great and terrible potential. Precise Shot is one of Tash’s developments, converting charged energy into deadly weapons of precision.
Tash’s backbone artifice conjuration takes the form of the mighty Scrap Hound. This reliable unit can support a spellboard hungry for charges, like Precise Shot, and also take advantage of Tash’s robust cache of alterations for additional strength!
Beware stepping foot into Tash’s hideout, for it is layered with defensive traps to dispatch those who seek to claim her ashes. Charge up your arsenal, then discharge them for additional power just when your opponent thinks you are spent!
