Post OFFICIAL Summoner Wars iOS October Tournament Thread

Round 3 had begun! Congrats to the 6 competitors who made it. For those finishing a match in rounds 1 or 2, Please still post the results on this thread. Your results still matter for faction stats and could also affect your seeding in a future tournament. GOOD LUCK TO THE FINAL SIX! Click here to read the PHG.com news article looking forward to the final round.

For official rules, see the 4th post below. Remember, general discussion is encouraged in the discussion thread. Use this thread for official tournament business (especially posting match results).

    Round 3 Competitor Instructions
    • As soon as possible, add the other 5 people in your pool as GameCenter friends. (It's good etiquette to note in your GameCenter request that this is for the SW iOS tourney.) If they get there first, accept their friendship request. As soon as the friendship is confirmed, invite the other person to a 3-day match.
    • The last two steps in starting each match is the invitee accepting the invite, and the inviter then beginning the match. You are welcome to do that now or wait until Sunday evening/Monday morning. You can use any faction and deckbuild you want for any match.
    • We want third round matches done by Sunday afternoon, October 28. Therefore, please have matches started by Monday morning, Oct. 22.
    • To be clear, forfeiture for running out of time is a solid loss, and a win for the other player. There are no draws.

    Reporting Your Matches
    • You MUST post in this thread after each match reporting who won and which faction each competitor used. The factions ARE required for competitive balance purposes and also the data is valuable to me.
    • If only one person posts results by Sunday afternoon (the 28th), their info is assumed to be correct. (If your opponent has already posted the results accurately, you're not required to post.)

    Championship Match Possibilities
As noted in the official rules below, in most cases, whoever wins the pool simply wins the tournament. However, if EXACTLY two players end up tied for first place with the same 3rd round record, AND those competitors are 1-1 against each other for the tournament, they will have a final championship match. Given ANY other result, we will simply use the same tiebreakers we've been using all tournament and a champion will be declared at the end of the week.

    OFFICIAL RULES

NOTE: One small change was made to the tiebreaker rules on October 2nd. Now, after pool record, head-to-head will be the first tiebreaker if possible. (If three people are tied and had a rock-paper-scissors result, we'll move on to the other tiebreakers.)

    Basic Info
    • The tournament will be limited to 54 competitors.
    • All tournament matches must be at a 3-day per participant time limit in the app. (That means each match could end up lasting up to 6 days.)
    • Competitors will initally be split into 9 pools of 6 competitors each.
    • Each week of the tournament, each pool will play a simultaneous round robin (every member of the pool playing every other member of the pool at once). That means each competitor will be playing 5 matches at a time.
    • You can play whichever faction and deckbuild you want for every match. You are welcome use a variety of factions and deckbuilds or just one.
    • At the end of the week, the top 2 competitors in each pool will move on and be reorganized into 3 pools of 6 players each, and the process will repeat for those competitors.
    • At the end of week 2, the top 2 competitors in each pool will combine for the final pool. The winner of the final pool will be declared the champion, with a single championship match if necessary.
    • The champion will receive a $50 store credit to the PlaidHatGames.com store.
    • Results of each match must be reported in this thread. For general discussion of the tournament, visit the thread linked here.

    Registration
    • Each person is limited to ONE registration. In other words, don't create several GameCenter accounts and register under each of them.
    • To register, reply to this thread with your intention to compete.
    • Before registering, go to the iOS Roll Call thread in the forums and post your GameCenter id (this is the official place where other competitors will go to befriend you on GameCenter).
    • Only the first 54 people to register will be admitted to the tournament. If anyone drops out during registration week, spots will open up and the first person to respond once the spot officially opens (in other words, when I post that there is a spot is open) will be admitted in their place. No substitutions are allowed once the tournament begins.

    Starting Matches and Time Limits
    • Pools for the week will be posted each Sunday evening on October 5, 14 and 21.
    • Each competitor needs to commit to check the pools each Sunday night / Monday morning to befriend their 5 fellow pool-mates on GameCenter/invite to matches/accept matches/start matches, so that all matches are underway by Monday evening.
    • All matches must be 3-day matches. The result will be that each player gets up to 3 days of time and so each match could last up to 6 days.
    • If there are problems getting a match started, it's critical to keep me in the loop by e-mailing me at [email protected] to make sure we work it out properly.

    Finishing and Reporting Matches
    • At the conclusion of each match, both competitors are required to post the results of the match in the official tournament thread (this thread) including the following details: who won and which faction each player used.
    • If only one competitor posts the results, their results will be trusted as the truth.
    • If no results have been posted by Sunday afternoon at the end of the week, both competitors are in danger of forfeiting the match. (Both would take a loss.) If there are problems during the week, stay in communication with me at [email protected] to avoid a forfeit.
    • Obviously competitors will be able to see which factions you choose each week and may attempt to counter your preferred factions in later rounds; be aware of this and consider switching up your factions.
    • Competitors are encouraged (but not required) to report on how the match went, what kinds of deckbuilds were seen, etc.

    Pools and Tiebreakers
    • At the end of each week, the top 2 ranked competitors in each pool will move on to the next round (and at the end of the third week, a winner will be declared).
    • Pool rankings will be determined by pool record for that week (i.e. 5-0, 4-1, etc), with initial ties being resolved by head-to-head result if possible.
    • After that, the second tiebreaker will be Total Strength of Victory (TSOV) within the pool (total wins in the pool by the opponents you beat).
    • The third tiebreaker will be overall win percentage for the entire tournament (this tiebreaker will not apply during the first round).
    • The fourth tiebreaker will be overall SOV for the entire tournament (this tiebreaker will not apply during the first round). This is the overall win percentage of the competitors you beat during the tournament.
    • If tiebreakers are not sufficient to determine the top two competitors in a pool (this is especially possible the first week), the next week's pool will be organized in an effort to get as close to 6 competitors in each pool as possible, without going over. Determination of who moves on will by by the following method:
      • Any competitor who, after tiebreakers, is in first alone in their pool, in second alone in their pool, or tied for first with only one other person in their pool, is automatically admitted to the next round.
      • Among those left over, those who are tied for first in their pool will be admitted next, assuming there is room.
      • Among those left-over after that, those who are tied for second in their pool will be admitted next, assuming there is room.
      • During the previous two steps, if there are more eligible left over competitors than there are open pool spots, those competitors will be compared across pools in this order of tiebreakers: head-to-head record (only if one tied competitor has a winning record against every other tied competitor), win percentage over the whole tournament, win percentage during the current pool, SOV percentage over the whole tournament, TSOV during the current pool, and, lastly, randomly.
    • At the conclusion of the final pool week, if exactly two competitors end with the same record within that pool AND have an even head-to-head record (this is possible if they were in previous pools together), a final championship match will follow. Given any other result, the tiebreakers normally used for determining in-pool rankings will be used and a champion will be declared.

    Forfeiting and Disqualification
    • Forfeiting any match for any reason is acceptable and not considered unsportsmanlike, but be sure to post the results in the tournament thread nonetheless and communicate with your opponent to be sure they didn't miss the forfeiture. A forfeited match counts as a loss for you and a win for your opponent.
    • Plaid Hat Games reserves the right to disqualify any competitor for any reason Plaid Hat Games deems necessary. Any sort of cheating will not be tolerated.
    • Those who are disqualified automatically forfeit any unresolved matches, will not move on to the next pool and are not eligible to win the tournament.

    Schedule
