Default Should I trigger crossroad card if i don't want to?

So here are a couple of questions:
    1) Should I trigger crossroad card if I don't want to? For example if it affects all party. Am I able to keep it secret like "Nothing happens"
    2) How the crossroad should be discarded face up or face down?

    1) You could, but I'm pretty sure that's cheating.
    2) Well, either it triggered and is removed from the game (like emptied trash) and people already know what it did, or it isn't and its put back under the crossroads pile (face down).

    1. As that the card is drawn by the player to the Right of the Active Player, and then IF Triggered, the entire card is READ ALOUD (by human or App) (Page 12, 1st paragraph), this question is actually voided. though it would be funny to have the player read the card to themselves and then make a decision, telling the other players anything they want.
    2. I think it is a matter of choice on Discard. for my group, we just discard to the bottom of the draw deck.
