Dead of Winter "Stockpile Food Drive Event"

Happy Holidays, Everyone! At PHG we’re so lucky to have some of the most amazing fans in gaming. We’re consistently blown away by the creative and wonderful ideas people have for our games, and today we have a very special event report! Atlantis Games & Comics recently held a very special event for Dead of Winter: A Crossroads Game. The “Stockpile Food Drive” allowed players to bring canned food and nonperishable foods (all to be donated to the Foodbank of South Hampton Roads) in order to “purchase” in-game benefits such as rerolling dice or gain special characters and items.

Atlantis Games & Comics went the extra mile to ensure that the store resembled the Colony from Dead of Winter, including barricades, caution tape and emergency supplies, as well as a spooky soundtrack of zombie-themed ambiance music! Players were able to purchase “rations” by trading in their canned and non-perishable foods for tokens to be used in-game.

Once the game began, players were able to spend their rations on a variety of in-game benefits, such as purchasing characters and item cards, rerolling action and exposure dice, increase the value of their votes, and of course add food to the Colony supply! These rules incentivized players to bring as much food as possible to give their Colony the edge it needed to survive!

In total, Atlantis Games & Comics raised over 300 pounds of food for the Foodbank of South Hampton Roads, well over their predicted goal! The staff informs us that they are defiantly planning to run a similar event in the near future. It’s absolutely amazing to see our game used to help those in need, and we’re very thankful to Atlantis Games & Comics for organizing and hosting the event! If you have an event you’re excited about involving Plaid Hat Games, be sure to let us know how it goes! Also be sure to check out Atlantis Games & Comics if you’re in the Porstmouth, VA area. Happy Holidays from the PHG Staff!
