    Lightbulb Suggestion: Global Campaigns

As I was typing the title of this thread another thought occured to me so you will get two ideas in one thread. Discount!

My original thought was that it would be fun to do a type of global campaign with this. I remember a while back games-workshop ran global events with the 4th war of Armageddon (I think that's what it was called. I actually don't play Warhammer/40k). They split into factions and had people all over the world compete in a giant campaign. It was pretty sweet looking. You could see a map and how each faction was doing and where the war as a whole moved. I think something like that would be a lot of fun for this.

If you didn't want to bother with recruiting and team making you could simply auto assign people into various sections. And then we could all compete online. I think they could be small enough, or done in a quick enough time that you could even assign people to specific race factions. Like in one campaign I could be assigned to the Cave Goblins, and so for the duration of the campaign I could only play as the CG. This wouldn't stop me from playing other factions offline or online against people, only for the campaign. That would be so much fun. I can picture threads starting for each faction where people would try and get their other clanmates to do better in the campaign, talking about strategy and stuff like that. It would also help/force people to try new factions if they wanted to keep playing in the campaign. They would have to learn how to play better in order to do well. And if you weren't good in a faction, or your faction wasn't doing well, it wouldn't be the end of the world as the campaign would only last a couple weeks or something like that.

Man, I'm getting excited just thinking about it. It doesn't seem like it would be too hard to get it working. We already have stat keeping in the game. it would just need to be tweaked a little further.

My second thought when I was typing campaign was that it might be fun to have a single player campaign that is story driven. We have so many talented writers here that I'm sure some could be used to write a fun little campaign for some of the factions. You'd have your single player map and all these battles you would have to fight. It could be very simply done or you could get more complicated with optional missions and stuff like that. Some of the missions could tweak the circumstances as well, like the opponent starting out with extra magic, or their starting positions would be different with maybe a champion already on the board or something. Maybe the end CG boss has Sneaks with Invincibility on him at all times or something.

Just spitballing here but I know I'd spend hours playing a single player campaign. It could be really cool to have it have a story as well where you could really dive into the mythos of the world. I know I'd be willing to help however I can in the project.

I say if anyone else thinks these preliminary ideas have some merit speak up and let's see if we can get it. If not, oh well, I sometimes have these grand visions that are beyond the realm of possible reality.

I like both ideas. I don't speak for playdek, but I kind of doubt an involved single player campaign is something they'd consider in the immediate future since they seem to have a ton of cool projects in the works to occupy their time, in addition to adding normal expansions to this game and team play.

A global campaign run officially or community driven could be fun, though I don't know how precisely that'd work. L5R does something like that for their tournament scene where there was a map of territories in this newly invaded region and tourney winners could claim a territory for the clan they used, presumably to have story ramifications in future sets, which would likely spill over into card design a bit. I don't do those tournaments but thought it was pretty nifty.

Great idea Gamjuven. I think I'll put that next on my list. I'm currently in the middle of playtesting the third summoners of the Master Set, but once I'm done that I think that I can arrange some map-based campaigns. Definitely have to put some fodder and make the deck outnumbered.

I think this is a pretty cool idea. The only problem is that in my area I don't have many players. Well 1 other experienced player really. So unless our portion of the war was strictly Benders vs Shadow Elves (our favorite factions) I don't think our constant battles vs the same person should count. I love the idea though. I would be willing to do some of the games on vassal and such. but yeah, not many players in my area.

this definitely seems cool, and new players could get more experience by being in direct contact with the best in the world. Playdek would need very advanced matchmaking technology, on par with blizzard, to balance it out more. They could make different groups, and each member plays an exact number of games with a single faction. Then, it changes every time all games are done. After all 8 are played, each group is assigned their best faction(s), and it becomes a knockout tourney, till only one group has standing players. Just my idea, which will likely take almost a year, but it sounds cool, huh? You could also, within each group, assign league which have new players and veterans. This gives new players a real chance to learn from the best.
    I shall mutate you.
