No need to be witty, I just enjoyed listening to the episode, that's why I said it was great.

I was interested the whole time, so nothing really stood out to me, plus I listened a few days ago, So I barely remember anything. I just remember enjoying the podcast and thinking it was a neat idea doing podcasts like this. A lot of behind the scenes, I guess that's what I liked.

So James, how'd you get into board games?

Also, if you and Colby played 100 games of SW, how many of them would you win?

    I would guess 82.

I don't feel like I was ever really OUT of them. Played candy land when I was very small. Chess when I was 6. Pinochle at 8. Magic at 9. Warhammer 40K at 12. Pokemon at 13. Monopoly throughout life until around 2005. Munchkin, D&D, and Settlers of Catan (a Euro that I like quite a bit!) all in high school. There was a lull in college, but then I played Heroscape at 22. So scape was my re-gateway.

At some point I might invoke the same principle I did with my dad in Chess.

I've no idea really. We usually had much smaller sample sizes. Back when we'd test Benders, he was pretty darn good with them. And whenever we'd do Cloaks v. Cave Goblins, I'd win that one from either side. Hard to say because we usually play decks that are in flux.

When it comes to those I've tested with or played in tournaments, I generally put Joe K above everyone else. Next probably comes me and Cody and Clarissimus. Colby is usually around the other WFU guys in my mind, not far behind the others I've already mentioned.

So... after listening to episode 58 I guess I'm now "Sock Pooper Doug". Episode 58 was great though, and thank you for reading my email.

For a little follow-up, here's an interesting post on the WoW forums in which people describe how playing WoW has affected them. No, I didn't start this thread, but I thought it was relevant. As you can see, what people take from MMOs depends a great deal on the individual.

The important difference between MMOs and most other forms of entertainment is that MMOs generally keep track of your achievements, meaningless as they may be, and provide a sense of accomplishment. A sense of accomplishment is a powerful motivating force and, IMHO, will become increasingly more prevalent in table top games, if not all forms of entertainment. Risk Legacy, the most innovative board game of the last 5 year, again IMHO, started to delve into this concept. There is a huge amount of untapped potential in this area though, which I expect to see explored in the next few years.

Would you mind if I nominated you for a title that says "Sock Pooper Doug"? Because that's hilarious.
