I’ve wondered this myself. My first inclination has always been to concede when defeat becomes inevitable, which feels perfectly natural in a game like chess. But in the culture of online game-playing concession seems to be taken to express poutiness. Whatever the convention I’m happy to follow it, although some of the alternatives offered (e.g. suiciding the summoner) don’t seem any better.

What does baffle me are those inexplicable concessions. Like, the other guy’s trouncing me, my units are obliterated, my summoner has two freezes on him, Krung’s going to be in battering range next turn … and then all of a sudden he concedes. Who knows why?

(On at least one occasion in another card game, the other player brought me within inches of death — literally nothing I could do to change things — and then just held off. Did nothing during his turns, refusing to make the final blow. The only thing I could come up with is he wanted to force me to concede; at that point I kept it going just out of spite. It took something like fifteen minutes before he finally finished me off.)

If someone named me in a session report, I don't take gaming seriously enough to be offended, but perhaps asking the loser first could be considered courteous. It is not an inherently and obviously bad thing to name an opponent in a report, so I would think leniency would be called for. I'd address it if it's an issue and move on, personally.

I only forfeit if the reason I'm about to lose is because I did something really stupid related to the app, like end my attack phase without attacking or something.

Also, the turn I plan on winning, I'll play it like any other turn. I've whiffed too many times to take it for granted. If I'm PE and the win is guaranteed, that's different.

Even then, I always play my games out to full. You never know, it's always possible for you opponent to whiff every single die against your summoner for the rest of the game.

Just not attacking or something dumb like though changes the entire game. I just feel like its no longer the same game after that.

If I accidentally CoG someone instead of attacking, I'll keep going. That's not as big a deal.

I don't think that is necessarily bad etiquette to name the person you beat. For example I would very much like to read a report where someone beat Jexik. Naming your opponent can show the skill of your opponent and reflect a win more prominently.

How about when you're naming an opponent who just started playing the game a week ago and is still learning?

I would only name someone who you know is good, and an experienced veteran. I would never name a person who might be a noob. on the other hand, if i beat colby or jerry, i would be all to happy to name my foe.

For me, I've never encountered a case in which someone committed suicide with their summoner or forfeited. Although I understand that it may be the person conceding the match, I still would feel it is important to at least finish the match. However, I'm not a fan of the "catch me if you can" tactic that many people often use. If you're number is up, you're number is up...
