I'm still new at the game but it seems like you could play the gobs as cheep deck and allowing you to get out champs faster than your opponents, turning your commons into your own magic with the chance of using the cards you would others wise build as magic to get in a shot or two before feeding them to the eater to build magic.
It's possible, I suppose, that that would work, but I think it would be better if you instead charged the Eater at your opponent's commons and eating your own only when necessary, because you would not only be denying your opponent magic, but you would be getting more from his units too. Never thought of it that way before...maybe it's time for me to use the Eater?

If you were my opponent, I'd drop a couple of ranged units and chip away at your walls and watch you eat away your commons.

I think the Eater is best used as a "surprise drop" unit aka summoned into the middle of a fray with a couple of your 0 cost units as fuel just in case your opponent moves away. Hopefully you take out a couple of enemy commons in the process.

Then again, with the advanced metagame leaning towards building commons for magic and pumping out champions quickly, there may not be enough commons for the Eater to chow on.

I can't believe I just noticed this, but the wording on the eater bothers me. His ability states that at the end of the attack phase you smut destroy an adjacent common. Then it says that at the end of the attack phase you must discard the eater if no commons units are adjacent. Does that mean that after the eater "eats", he cans till be discarded is a second common was not adjacent? I've have been playing it where if he eats he stays, he doesn't eat he is discarded.

Thankfully, no, it's not like that.

    - The Eater checks the spaces adjacent to him for a Common Unit. If there is one or more, one is selected and it is destroyed. If there aren't any, The Eater is discarded.

Good to hear. That's what i figured but I didn't want a ton of my games to have been won due to a misinterpretation.
