So after a few games by myself I was finally able to play a game with my older bro. After going over the rules we decided to play Dwarves(Him) vs. Orcs (Me). I rolled higher so I decided to move first. I moved and attacked with my Shaman and one of my Fighters. My Shaman rolled 2 hits and destroyed one of his defenders. Next my fighter destroyed his spearman, followed by rolling Fury, moving and attacking his Engineer, followed by another Fury, where I moved him next to Oldin, inflicting 1 wound and missing the 4th Fury roll. I managed to destroy 3 units and take 1 life away from Oldin in my first turn.

It was great until my brother drew and played both of his Magic Drains within the next few turns, followed by his Reinforcements, allowing him to take away 4 of my magic points and Summoning more of his commons for free within those turns. With the newly acquired magic plus some of his own, he later summoned Baldar and an Engineer. He played 2 besiege the wall cards, which destroyed my ice wall and put 6 on my starting wall. While Baldar slowly began picking my Commons off, he had moved his engineer adjacent to my wall after playing Heroic Feat on it. He destroyed my only wall, leaving me with 2 units (including Summoner), some magic, and a few commons in my hand with no walls to summon them. I spent 2 turns trying get walls, and luckily I drew 2, placing them adjacent to some of his incoming units, and rolling a successful Wall of Ice Shard, putting me back in the game.

To speed it up a bit, I had Grognack with 6 life, 2 smashers, a fighter, and Blagog left, while he had a “frozen” Baldar with 2 life, Thorkur with 2 Life, Oldin with 5 life and a wee little spearman left. Both of our decks were empty, and he was left with only 2 magic points. I decided to attack Baldar with Grognack, however he decided to spend his last remaining magic to discard Freeze, and surely enough, Grognack rolled a 6,5,4,4…successfully destroying Baldar which left Thorkur with no magic to use Magic Barrier, allowing me to destroy his last champion with a Smasher. With his summoner and Spearman left, on my next turn I played my last Freeze card on Oldin, which clenched the victory for the Orcs because he had no more magic to discard it. He decided to call the match because of Oldin’s inevitable defeat that would have come within the next few turns.

Overall it was an awesome game (especially since it was my Bro’s first). I was scared for my life when my walls were gone for those few turns, which left Grognack wide open, but in the end it was my Freeze cards that saved me. We’re playing again tonight, and a few friends are coming so we’re going to try our first 2 on 2 game, so we’ll see how that goes. Thanks for listening, hope you enjoyed hearing my story.

Saving the freeze cards for end-game is an interesting strategy. I usually just toss them out right away on something that I might not be able to kill right away, but it sure seemed to pay off for you here.

Usually I play the Freezes as a saving grace or during endgame. That seems to get the most out of them.

Theoretically I see the Freezes being more useful at the end, since the opponent will often not have the magic left to free them
