I was listening to the current The Dice Tower podcast (#206, Top Ten Card Games of All-Time) and host Tom Vasel had Summoner Wars at #2 on his list!
I know Tom V. gave SW a ringing endorsement on his video review back when the game came out, so it's nice to see that he's still very much a fan of the game.
The podcast can be found at the following link:

I'm glad to see Tom still having this in his top 10 and #2 just shows how strong SW is.

Nope. Dominion.

Nope. Dominion.
That would have been my guess. I used to like Dominion but it soon started to resemble Carcassone in its mindless expansions. Alchemy made me mad

wait, is this Tom Vasel's top 10 or Dice Tower top 10? (not the same thing). I guess it's the Dice Tower given the results...

Alchemy doesn't get the love it deserves. I guess you have to like long action chains, which I do, which makes Alchemy awesome.
And yeah, I guessed before anyone else here said it that Dominion would be his 1 if SW is number 2.

It was an episode of Dice Tower, yes, but Tom gave his Top Ten and Eric Summerer gave his own. So, I'd say it was Tom Vasel's Top Ten.

Yeah, Eric Summerer didn't put it in his top 10 at all, and Tom Vasel totally called him out on it.

But, Eric did say the only reason he didn't have it on his list was because his group won't play it. He says he thinks it's a great game. Now, that pesky gaming group of his...

oh well, weird. Tom called Yomi an instant classic. Gave the most positive review to it that i have seen, and that is a lot coming from him :p

I catch that too, I believe Eric want to list it as top 10, just he havent put in enough time into the game to properly rank it, that was all... he will soon or later, I bet 10 bucks on it
btw, I also agree on Dominion how they expend mindlessly... one of the reason why I stop playing. Oh and the fact I felt like I am playing with myself most of the time, even with intrigue

I would totally agree with you (I actually liked the concept), except Dominion meta game is almost entirely Big Money, which kind of kills the game in my opinion. In my group I made the error of introducing Big Money

It's pretty much the first strategy I came up with and applied in my first game. No wonder I dislike the game, if that strategy ruins it and I had the misfortune of discovering it the first time!

Summoner is #22, it's like being in second, but twice...

Just played my first summoner wars game 3 days ago and I loved it! I only discovered that the game existed about two weeks ago when i stumbled across Tom's review on the dice tower. He's got it rated #8 on his favorite two player games list. I was looking for good, quick, two player game and i seem to have found it. BTW.... what is all the dislike for Dominion?? It's a fantastic game when played with the right group.

Of the two people I play Dominion with the most often, one is a big money player, and the other is a draw-your-deck and forget to buy enough VPs kind of player.
I usually beat both by playing somewhere in the middle.

So far I've played as the Goblins, Orcs, Cloaks and Phoenix Elves. I quite enjoyed the Orcs. The Cloaks seem like a harder faction to play... lost as them to the Jungle Elves... and demolished them as the Phoenix Elves.
I didn't really like the instant hit ability of the Phoenix Elves.. seemed a little cheap. Only decks we don't have now are the Vanguard and Fallen Kingdoms.

The cloaks are gonna require a little more strategy than most other factions as well as Vanguards. Both are quite powerful but it all depends on your play-style and what you want to do.
Once you get the feel for all the decks the PE are much less of a threat.
Orcs seem to be the choice of many from what i can tell. Great faction use there freeze cards wisely.

The freeze cards are awesome! Nothing better than freezing an opposing champion when he enters the game.... wait there is something better. Freezing him the next turn as well :D
