This thread is for us all to post your favorite webcomics and give a brief description/reason why it's awesome and worth checking.

The first webcomcic that came to mind (and actually was going to make the post only about that) was this one: Erfworld (http://www.erfworld.com/book-1-archive/?px=%2F001.jpg)
It's about a fantasy world which is governed with game-like rules. Imagine Grognack standing still waiting for his turn to arrive while all the little Goblins are hitting his life away. I think this one is the most related to the SumWars ideal. The comic is not great for it's humour, but for it's intelligent pop references and world description.

Girl Genius (http://www.girlgeniusonline.com/comic.php?date=20021104) is a Hugo winner comic which sprawls a looot of pages (it's been going on for years) in a "gas-lamp fantasy" type, very similar to Steam Punk. This is about Sparks, Mad Scientist, which truly go mad but can make death rays out of a honey pot. Fun world to live in.

This one won't need presentation for most related to Dungeons and Dragons due to its popularity because Order of the Stick (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0001.html) is quite well known. The audience is for D&D players really and it has superb humour for it's first 200 pages or so. Then it becomes more about the story and it might suit you or not. The forums there also have a great WebComic Forum (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=17) for those avid for discussion of these and other webcomcis. Actually Erfworld started in this website so there are still a lot of great threads there about the first book.

And as a bonus, another developed one: DcMcninja (http://drmcninja.com/archives/comic/0p1) is as awesome as a Ninja can be being a Doctor as a day job.

Wanted to answer for a while, but got addicted to Erfworld... Nice finding!

Otherwise, I follow a nice webcomic called PHD Comics (http://www.phdcomics.com/comics/archive.php). It's a serie of panels with jokes on universities and its student, particularly the graduate student. Tons of fun if you've been in that universe already!

Other well known serie: XKCD (http://xkcd.com/). Minimal drawings, lots of sarcasm, and pretty much anything can be a joke. Joke number 640 got me laughing for a few minutes already!

The main character is strange to read since I have nothing in common with him(exact opposites) except for the strategy gaming aspect @_@

I'm a huge fan of Dinosaur Comics (http://www.qwantz.com/index.php). Very random, hilarious characters, and the basis of the comic is pretty funny too.

I followed What Do You Do (http://what-do-you-do.net/) for a while, but they eventually started creating pages too fast for me, and I lost track of it a little ways into Chapter 2. Any ways it's an excellent webcomic, as is proven by this clip (http://what-do-you-do.net/2010/02/james-in-wonderland/). Several of the pages are flash animations/games. Plus, if you get really big into it, you can decide what happens. I highly reccomend it to anyone with a long enough attention span.

Pretty much all I read is Cyanide and Happiness, plus XKCD, but that's already been mentioned.

Oh yeah, and Hyperboly and a half occasionally.

+1 For xkcd, PhD comics, and Order of the Stick. I read Erf for a while, but it didn't really click.

The only new comic I'll recommend is actually an old one that ended a while ago, but it may be of interest to some readers here: 8-bit Theater (http://www.nuklearpower.com/2001/03/02/episode-001-were-going-where/)

Also, I dressed as Dr McNinja for Halloween a few years ago. I went to three different parties, but only one person recognized the character. The costume was great, but it was a pain to eat and drink with the ninja-mask-thing.

Just a question about Order of the Stick... I started reading it a few days ago, and I've gone through all 799 already. About how often is it updated with a new strip?

in the front page Rich Burlew says it's at random with no previous notice. In practice that has been around two a month unfortunately.

An oldie but still my favorite... Sluggy Freelance. Start here, at the beginning:
http://sluggy.com/comics/archives/weekly/970825

After a couple months the storylines start to get more in-depth and the art begins to improve. Gotta stick with it through the first year before you judge.

Over the years it's gone to some dark/serious places with long storylines. Those were always annoying while they were happening but if you just read through the archives they're great.

Sluggy Freelance began way back in 1997. There's a certain segment of the webcomic community that despises it, but I love it.

Webcomics I read:
Penny Arcade - so good, and the news/blog part is interesting to read too.
XKCD - 'Nuff said. Pretty sure it's been described in this thread already, or everyone already knows it.
Questionable Content - Good storyline, interesting characters and humour. Plus - 5 updates a week!
MS Paint Adventures - Read Homestuck. Don't be daunted by the 5997 pages :S It's about a game. And trolls.

And the less SFW ones:
Menage a 3 - About a nerdy guy with two female housemates - a big-chested french girl, and rock chick.
Oglaf - VERY NSFW. Humour-filled. Look at it if you're over 18.

Looking at some of the comic people have suggested, they sound really cool :) Might have to start reading some of those!

I usually find if you check every two weeks there are enough to keep you busy for a while.

I read
Order of the Stick: It's been mentioned already
Dominic Deegan: This is about a seer who basically fights evil a lot and has characters that die and then come back. This is one of the only manga type comic I read. ( I usually avoid reading them.) Dominic Deegan is interesting and easy to get into if you relate to him. Good thing about it is that the artwork gets better the further you go on. The comic has been running for 7 or 8 years now. I recommend it.
XKCD: Already mentioned

Just started reading a new one called Ctrl-Alt-Dlt. It's about current events in video games, so some people don't really get it, but I like it.

I clicked on a few of these links, and I'm okay with a little swearing or the occasional reference to an inappropriate topic, as long as there's good material at the core, but xkcd is horrible. I clicked over the first few offensive strips, but when a comic swears and references sex and pornography this often, I'd like to ask you all to remove the links to it from this "family-friendly" site. I mean, why do people even write that stuff?

If you won't remove the links, I'd like to at least post a public warning: Some/many of these links are to webcomics containing strong language, sex references, and/or violence.

Because it's hilarious. It's life, get used to it.

It shouldn't be "life." So we shouldn't have to get used to it.

I would very much agree that xkcd isn't really appropriate for many audiences, and that it shouldn't be read by some younger kids.

I'd also suggest though that any young kids should be on the internet with their parents, and then anyone old enough to read it otherwise can decide to not continue if they are comfortable with those topics.

And to try and be on topic, I know OOTS has been mentioned, but if you haven't tried that, you need to. Oh, and its sorta/kinda being updated again, so that's cool too.

That was a good one. I've seen the comments about XKCD, and I've read a lot of them over the years. The beauty of XKCD is that it can be totally random. Sure some deal with sensible stuff, but I think no joke site can be devoid of that. And from experience, most of them are just funny, sarcastic or random, which is a style by itself.

Has anyone tried Brawl in the Family? It's awesome, if you're not one of 2 things:

*A person who wants sex jokes. The strip is family-friendly.
*Someone who thinks Nintendo is "For kiddies".

I love Brawl in the Family. Order of the Stick is also good, as long as you're fine with swearing, and one or two scenes which are middling-to-high NSFW throughout its entire nearly 900 strip run. Brawl in the Family is also good, and is clean wholesome fun. I started reading Looking for Group a while back, and it was pretty funny.

I'm a fan of The Dreadful and Skull Kickers.

The Dreadful is about a fantasy wild west and Skull Kickers is about mercenaries in a fantasy world. They're both violent and have some language, but nothing too bad, in my opinion.

I'm reading OOTS and Brawl in the Family right now, and I'll try Skull Kickers.

Sorry about the rant, by the way. I'm just sick of people hating on nintendo.
