View Full Version : First turn question
Does the player that goes first not draw a hand until their second turn? It says they skip their first draw phase and I didn't see anything about starting with cards in your hand.
Can the first player build magic on their first turn?

There is no starting hand, so that first player won't have any cards to build magic with on their first turn.

I love the first turn element in this game. The ability to strike first, earn some easy magic, and weaken your opponent's starting position is great. At the same time it hurts not drawing events or being able to build magic - and you're practically guaranteeing your opponent a Magic Drain or Reinforcements.
This game is full of tough decisions.

Agreed... I love the first turn penality/blessing aspect!

There is no starting hand...
Whoa! I'd missed that entirely. Makes the Cave Goblin quick start even quicker.

Wouldn't it make it slower? You do NOT have a starting hand in the game, so only the player who goes second will have any cards on the first turn.

But if you go second with the goblins you can summon when most decks wouldn't be able to.

Ah, I see what you are saying.

Yup, Hogg got it. Usually whoever goes first will get the chance to summon first, but only with whatever they kill in their first turn. Whoever goes second gets to build magic first which should mean that the first time they summon (in the turn after the player that went first) they'll have more magic available to do so. In either case, they'd first be able to summon on their second turn. There's no particular advantage for the Goblins in going first since they'll still not be able to summon until their second turn, but if they go second, they can summon in their first turn.

It's always a pleasant surprise when your TO fighter can Fury his way first turn right to your opponent's Summoner. That's probably the only thing I like about going first, lol

i understand that you can only move with 2 units on your 1st turn if you go first, but does this mean they can only attack with 2 units as well? or do they get to attack with 3 units?

It is only move that is limited to 2 units; the remainder of the turn, including attack, is completed as usual.

Though, off the top of my head, I can't think of any set ups where you could get three attacks in the first turn.

Either side can get 3 hits in with Tundra Orcs v. Guild Dwarves.
And if you're willing to attack your own guys... ;)

The first player never draws on the first turn, because they skip phases 1-3. Also the only way they would be able to build Magic at the end is if some card made you get cards in your hand.
