Well we are on our 7th Tree Town Open ( Heroscape ) .... I thought there might be some interest in a SummonerWars Tourney ?
Since Tree Town is already in use how about calling the Summoner Wars tourney Forest Frenzy ?
Is any one out there interested ?
Forest Frenzy would be held in Tree Town - Forest City, Iowa. -edit-
PRIZES
At this point I am looking at a $10 entry fee. For that fee everyone would get a the very least a , Deck box by Ultra Pro, and Reinforcement Pack. Instead of a Reinforcement pack the prize table may also contain a MasterSet, double and triple groups of complete Faction Decks, Preimum Boards . This is just the start I am sure the prize table will continue to grow as November gets closer. I just need to understand how many people may be coming.
Sorry - I know we talked about T-shirts, but the numbers are not here yet to do them... once we can field a large enough tourney that makes ording shirts possiable we will also offer shirts to everyone who plays ... but sorry I know it will not be this year.
24 complete decks from the master set.
We also have 5 game boards and the boxes are so nice we will even put those out if someone want an extra (The boxes do not have any cards but do have the dice, wound markers, and rule book plus the nice insert for storing cards.
Everyone will also get a deck box!
You can assume the tourney will be standard build decks ( no free build ).

Last Friday I started this thread and so far only two folk have shown any interest….
The good news if we had it ... I would be guaranteed of at least 3rd place :).
The bad news is we are no where close to having enough interest to do any type of Summoner Wars tournament yet .
I think we need a minimum of 16 participants ( that would get us up to four rounds of play ) and I really thought we would have 32 or more which would get us 5 rounds of play. Maybe this was too soon to post …. I will put the tourney on the back burner and maybe ask about the Forest Frenzy at latter date.... when more folks have discovered this great game.

Codeman, I don't check the forums here yet as often as I do on Heroscapers. At this time I am interested in a tourney in Forest City, and am hoping that the SW event at the Gamers Reunion will generate interest for events in the area. See you there!

I think we can still pull of " Forest Frenzey I " this year. What are peoples feeling about the Sunday October 16th, we would have a Heroscape tourney on the day before Saturday October 15th. If Sunday does not work out I would like looking at something around Saturday October 1st.

Im interested in this. I have yet to get the Beatrice, NE Heroscape players as into this as I am but I have some time to work on them. The only way Id be able to go is if it was the day after TTO. Im not even 100% sure Id be a go but I sure would try my hardest. Definitely count me as maybe for now.

Man I really want to come but I highly doubt I'll make it. Sorry guys.
I am concerned about how many people will make it. Gas took another big jump...around here it is now $3.75/gal. Three years ago when it hit $4 it had a huge impact on you tourney, and we were down by approx 1/3. The good news is the numbers were right back up the next two years.
This was another gas price increase that was not really caused by anything other than speculation.... I don't like governement regulation, but here is an area it would be good for the entire US if did some checking into and took action as fuel prices affect almost everything.

Where are all the SumonnersWars players? I have not gave up on this yet, but lets get at least 16 players so we can go 4 rounds.
Right now it looks like we could do a round-robin format ( we all would get 5 rounds in, 6 if everyone on the list showed )

Too bad... this post really isn't going anywhere.
Maybe will can just do some informal play that Saturday night.... we can touch base with those who are here for Tree Town if we only have few people we can wing it. After the TTO we can take a break go to Supper and maybe play a couple games of SW later that night if it all works out with those that want to. The prize table may end up being a single master set and we can break apart and winners have first choice of deck(s) or board.

So is anything happening with this? I love Summoner Wars! It got put on the back burners for me because of lack of people to play with. I was just checking the site out to see the new products and realized there's a community...Then to find out that Codeman, the grand master of tourney organizers, was trying to run a SW one...WooHoo!!! It's a little disappointing to see the lack of numbers but I would most definitely be up for playing. I only wish I could bring more players with me. I could however bring a custom SW board for a prize if needed.

I have not given up on Forest Frenzy... but it looks like I started the ball rolling too early. Once a few more people discover this great game .... look for us to host a SW tourney hopefully in 2012.
Note Jormi does host a SW tourney at the Gamers Reunion as well as the Heroscape tourney in Rochester MN every April.
Maybe in year we can combine Tree Town Open ( Heroscape) and a Summoner Wars Tournament the same day or same weekend. This years HS tourney looks to be as good a turnout as ever but who knows by next year maybe the numbers will be down on HS and up on SW and we could do mayber 4 round of HS and then 4 rounds of SW... too early to say but I do see a Summoner Wars Tournament in our future as long as Jormi is around to be the TD, I certainly happy to line up the rest (and already have some ideas :) ).

I am still waiting to confirm... but I am 95% sure we will be upstairs at Shoorterz which is located on Hwy 69. From the intersection of Hyw 9 & 69 stoplight Shoorterz is North from the light and you should see it at the end of the curve once you turn onto Hwy 9 & 69 north.
Also tenative is the date but again I am 95% sure in will be Saturday November 12, 2011.
Please keep checking the first thread for details.

If it is on Nov 12th, I should be able to make it.
Maybe I missed this, but how are we using the two decks? Do we just alternate decks every other game?
EDIT: Also, are the two decks allowed to be from the same faction? Will deck contents be common knowledge to all players?

The 12th is coming up fast and I appogize so many things are still not set in stone.
One of the original plans was to rotate decks between odd & even games, however for this first tourney here we may make it simple and just use one deck. Hope to have the details pinned down soon. I think I can say it will be one deck or two decks and I am fairly sure we will not do more than two decks this first go around.
If or when we do a multi-deck tourney I will let Jormi determine if same faction can be used ( my guess is no, but that will be his call as TD).

Are we still going with the 2 deck rotation?
Will people know what's in their opponent's deck before the first turn?
I assume that we'll have to sleeve our decks.
I'm looking forward to this. Hopefully we get more people interested.
Jormi_Boced
10-24-2011, 10:52 AM
I believe we are just going with bringing one deck.
People will not know what is in your deck. We will want you to write it on your score card though, if it is just standard you can write that or write what changes you made.
You do not have to sleeve your deck, but I would recommend it as it will be a lot easier to return cards at the end of the game, unless you have the same sleeves:) Since everyone's armies will be written down it will be easy enough to take an inventory in that unlikely event.

Hope you can as well .... sorry if the 12th does not work well.
The skybox was already taken for November 5th. November 19 is the Nebraska Skirmish. Thanksgiving weekend takes out the 26th. I ruled out December as people seem busy enough as Christmas closes in, and of course the SNOW STORMs are possiable and it always seems the first snow is the worst as least for some of the drivers out on the road or ditch.
That left November 12th
Again next year it makes sense to me to do a Friday night SW tourney at Waldorf followed up on Saturday with HS.

Too bad IL does not have all of Hwy 20 made into a divided 4 lane. On the Iowa side it is all clear sailing ( at least on the east side of the state ). It would make the trip to Chicago a lot nicer than droping all the way down to I-80.

With a week to go it looks like we will have somewhere around 16 players ... so I think we can all look forward to having 4 rounds of SW. We still have plenty of room so please continue to sign up.
Jormi will have some T-shirts there both for the prize table and to sell. Note the all profits from these shirts go toward SW tournaments. This money will go toward the chess clocks that Jormi will have at each board/match. As the clocks are paid for the money can then go towards bigger and better prizes and entry fees can be lowered or at least stay at the nominal $10. As with most tournaments Jormi or I are involved with our goal is for everyone to go home with prizes that at lest equal if not exceed the value of the entry fee you paid.
Please remember to bring:
1. your deck *
2. wound markers
3. dice
4. $ (entry fee & food/drink at Shooterz)
5. as always good sportsmanship
* Jormi has also stated he has extra decks to barrow for those that have demo'd the game but may not have a deck yet. Don't let not having a deck stop you from having fun at the Forest Frenzy next Saturday!

I had a great time at the Forest Frenzy.
I ended up randomly determining my faction for the tourney and the roll game me the Shadow Elves. I feel pretty comfortable with them, but there are a few factions that can give me trouble. In my deck I have subbed out 4 of the scouts for 4 swordsmen. I really like to concentrate on assassinating the summoner with stalking advance, swordsmen and Xaserbane.
First round I was paired up against Cara and was a little worried about the match-up as she was playing Guild Dwarves which I think are one of the Shadow Elves worse match-ups due to the Defenders being able to block off a lot of lanes to the summoner for the assassination attempts.
It ended up going back and forth and there were a couple of wounds on my Summoner at the end of the game, but I got a Xaserbane charge on Oldin next to a wall and got a couple of wounds and Xaserbane survived the next round. So then a stalking advance helped me get my Hydrake, a Swordsmen and Xaserbane around Oldin on the next turn. Despite rolling 8 dice I think I only got 3 wounds, but the next turn another stalking advance got another swordmaster in with the swordmaster and hydrake to put the last couple of wounds on Oldin.
Round 2 I got paired up against my old man:) He was running Jungle Elves with 6 elepahts and 2 Jungle Guard instead of some lioneers and lionesses. I had played his deck a few times the other day and was 2-1 against it, but I hadn't played it with my Shadow Elves yet. I figured I had a good chance with Abua Shi being a little fragile and my dad is sometimes a bit over aggressive with him as that ranged attack of three is just so tempting to use:)
Abua Shi did get real aggressive along with some elephants and lions and had me on the ropes a little with 5 wounds on Selundar at the end of the game, but I only needed to get 5 wounds on Abua and was able to win by doing that. It was a very quick game.
The final round I was up against Jon Merkel's Cloaks, which is a decent matchup for me. Vlox can get around a bit, but at six health he doesn't take a lot of assassination attempts to bring down.
His first turn he spies me and discards my Hyrdrake. I really did not like that start:(
On a later turn he raided me but I only had two shadows in my hand and I was able to drop them both during his attacks:)
The end of the game came down to the wire. He was really cautious of Xaserbane and I held him til the very end of the game when I realized I wasn't going to get to sneak and used him with Selundar to take out Scam. Then he used a gunner to block Xaserbane out from getting to his summoner, but I still had an into the darkness to drop him and the last scrapper on the board to open up Vlox to my Xaserbane.
This gave me my third win of the game in a very tight game!
After the tourney we played a six player game of Dungeon Run where I played Varragg and almost won, if only for a couple of rolls to go my way, but Cara played a great game and was able to retrieve the stone for the Phoenix Elves.
I can't wait to play in another SW tourney.

I can't wait to play in another SW tourney.
Same here, I know Kaite & April are also ready to in another tourney.
I now travel in the winter is kind of ify but I am sure I would have a car full show up at a tourney as long as the weather forcast does not look too bad.
Another thought:
I have some prizes left over, and I've always wanted to host a "Ground Hog Shootout" that would be on a weekend on either side of Feb 2 (goundhogs day). I will give that some thought and see if that fits into our families plans.

It is not super far, like 4 hoursish. This weekend a group of folks from FC will be traveling to Omaha for a Heroscape tourney.

The problem is that I'm not the one judging distance. If Dad thinks its too far to drive, there's no way I'm getting there.
Oh, and I'll see you at that Heroscape tournament. ;)
