My nephew had Goblins and I had Dwarves when we played for the first time today. He pulled out Blarf and said that he can use cards from his magic pile to put under Blarf to boost his attack to up to + 4. We weren't sure, but once he uses 4 cards from his magic pile to put under Blarf's card, do they always stay there for a boost of 4 to attack or is it a one time shot each time he uses a magic card to attack with. I would think that for his cost, he'd be too broken to just cost 4 magic cards to always have an attack of 4, I would think that once he attacks, he removes the number of magic cards under him for each attack die he attacked with. Not being sure, we left the 4 cards under him and he clobbered me with some heavy attacks. Then he got a boost from the other Goblin that gives everyone within 3 spaces +1 to attack, so he nailed me with 5 attack. It sounded kind of fishy, but I wasn't sure.

Nah, the cards stay there. Keep in mind that when someone kills him, he's like a piņata full of magic.
Think of him this way. He only costs 1 to summon. But you can put a Magic Loan on him to make him cost 5. A 5 cost, 4 attack, 5 life card with no other power isn't that ridiculous, considering what Maelena and Ragnor can do, especially when you take into account the risk that a wounded Blarf can pose. As hinted at in some of the flavor material, you can always have your own goblins eat him for his juicy magic if you're worried about someone else taking it.

Thanks Jexik, that's good to know...for the next time. I should have concentrated on attacking him to get the magic. We only played the one time and it was a learning game, so next time I know better.
Thanks again. :)

I think your actually playing Mook wrong. He doesn't give the Goblins an extra attack die, he gives them +1 on their roll for their other attack dice. For example, if you roll a 2 on a die, but you have Mook within 3 spaces of that Goblin, the 2 counts as a hit.

Yes, this is correct. He makes 2s into 3s and 3s into 4s etc.

Well that's what I get for trusting my nephew :( He was studying the rules while I was visiting with family and such and we played after most everyone had left. I didn't question what he said Mook did because he'd good a Heroscape, so he's used to reading the powers on cards and such.
Thanks for the correction on that fellas. Since my nephew has the game, I'll have to study the cards on this site to make sure I got them down better before we play again. I got him (my nephew) the other starter set for Christmas and I really want to give it to him early so we can play the different factions. Oh well, I'll just have to wait.
We need some expansion packs Truth, hope the sales skyrocket to get more Summoner Wars stuff out there.

What a wonderful analogy.

This was my only question about this game, when Blarf dies does your opponent get the ton of magic. He seems more balanced now (still an amazing champion ;)).
