Ret-Talus' Raise the Dead - Do I get to raise the magic I just spent?

Theoretical scenario:

- Empty discard pile
- Magic pile containes 2 cards - Zombie Warrior 2x

When I activate Ret Talus' Raise the Dead, do I get to raise the Zombie Warriors I just spent?

aka is the flow something like:

1. Activate Raise the Dead
2. Spend 2 Magic
3. 2 Zombie Warriors go to the discard pile
4. Raise 1 Zombie Warrior

OR

1. Activate Raise the Dead
2. Spend 2 Magic
3. Raise the Dead fails coz the moment the magic was spent, the discard pile was empty

Help? I find this important coz at some point in the game, I always find my discard pile empty of the units I want to raise because they are stuck in the magic pile. Can somebody clarify? My sense is Scenario 1 should be the correct application.

The first scenario is correct. The zombies are in your discard pile, so they can be raised.

Nothing happens simultaneously in SW. So, you pay the Magic and put it in your Discard pile. So, that means you get to then use those three Magic to bring 'em back.

It was asked/answered first on BGG in a non-related and then earlier in this forum. I think the thread is currently sitting on page 3. The answer could also be found in The Book of Ret-Talus, although that incident specifically refers to Legions of the Dead...for now. I'm going to fix that.

So, you can. The zombies go into you discard pile before you place one next to Ret-Talus.
