I spent the day yesterday, helping Plaid Hat Games demo Summoner Wars at BGGcon. I won about half the games I played.
Now I have been playing SW for quite a while now having been fortunate enough to take part in the playtest process. One thing I love about the game is the way players of all skill levels can quickly learn the game in 5 minutes and not only be playing independently, but can really develop a sense for the strategy.
Yesterday, one player I watched decided that he was going to use his build magic phase to dump tons of commons. He then used the magic to basically bring into play all of his champions. He was playing Dwarves who have some really excellent Champions. He proceeded to destroy his opponent's Goblin army quite handily because he had used a tactic that was unexpected.
Another Player playing the Phoenix Elves was making excellent use of the Warriors and Guardians. His warriors would rush forward, strike with 2 dice often backed by Spirit of the Phoenix, and then Blaze back to safety afterward robbing me of an opportunity to strike back on my turn. His Guardians were picking off me one wound Fighters and keeping his Magic pile stacked.
So to all of you new players out there BRAVO!! Thanks for slapping me around!
