Champion of the Mercenaries

When you summon the Doppelganger, you may take a common or champion card from any player's discard pile and put it into play under your control. Place the Doppelganger underneath the chosen unit.

Cost/Attack/Life/Special abilities are per the "cloned" card.

Special Ability: Shapeshift
When you shapeshift, you may take another common or champion card from any player's discard pile and place it on top of the previous unit card. Pay the summoning costs as normal. Do not remove any wound tokens, and do not remove any previously played unit cards. This ability may be used regardless of any unit cards on top of it.

Very, very interesting. Have you had a chance to playtest this yet?

Not yet, no. I'm at the office and just thought it up while on lunch.

I think it's too powerful if you could switch at any time, so I think the shapeshift should be limited to happening during the summon phase.

I'm trying to think of combos to use with this, like advancing with goblin rush in one turn, and then switching to, say, Krung or Gror to do some damage during the next. Or maybe using an "engineer" against a dwarf player's wall, and switching him to a smasher when he gets in trouble.

It all depends on which factions are involved in that particular game, and which units have been discarded. I also like the idea of being able to "bring back" a favorite champion of yours that has been defeated.

Just watch out, because too many shifts could turn into another magic pinata. And yes, for simplicity's sake I would treat any cards stacked from previous shapeshifts as buffs for Blarf.
